Hazardous materials (Asbestos, Lead,  Mercury, and PCBs) may be present in buildings and may require a Hazardous Materials Survey prior to beginning a building demolition or renovation of existing structures.  An EPA approved and properly licensed asbestos inspector is knowledgeable on compliance, health, safety, and liability risks and will advise the constructor and building owner regarding compliant construction practices.  Hazardous materials can become airborne during construction, renovations, or demolition of a building, posing risk to occupants, workers, and the community.

Our inspectors have completed numerous hazardous material surveys for school systems, municipal housing authorities, medical facilities, office buildings, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and residences. A building owner’s first step to developing a management tool for maintenance of hazardous materials in their building is a detailed survey.

Since 1986, Applied Environmental has surveyed, and developed abatement specifications for governmental, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings for asbestos-containing materials, lead-containing surface coatings, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) articles, mercury-containing articles, Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant, and abandoned chemical inventories.

Surveys are performed by experienced, licensed inspectors, management planners, and project designers, Certified Hazardous Materials Managers are also on staff. As part of the survey process, our inspectors provide approximate quantities for any identified hazardous materials, and create CADD drawings delineating locations thereof.
